Russian ballistic missiles killed two people and wounded five in Kyiv early on July 16, striking the Sviatoshynskyi and Darnytskyi districts just hours after European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited the capital to announce a drone production agreement between the bloc and Ukraine.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported blazes in both districts following the overnight attack, which comes after earlier strikes left at least six wounded and damaged buildings.
The bombardment follows a day of nationwide Russian attacks on July 15 that killed 13 people and injured about 50 across Ukraine, with guided aerial bombs hitting Sumy and missiles targeting Odesa for a fifth consecutive day.
