Russian missile, drone, and guided-bomb strikes killed eight people and wounded dozens across Ukraine on 11 July, hitting residential areas in Kyiv, Sumy, Odesa, and Sloviansk. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Moscow deployed more than 120 drones and 12 missiles overnight, while a Ukrainian defence ministry adviser suggested S-400 air-defence rockets were repurposed for ground strikes.
In retaliation, Ukraine struck 36 Russian vessels in the Sea of Azov and Black Sea earlier in the week and hit an oil refinery in Russia's Samara region. Moscow said it targeted drone-production facilities and ports in Kyiv, Izmail, and Chornomorsk.
Zelenskyy urged Washington to expedite licences for domestic Patriot production, a commitment President Donald Trump pledged at a NATO summit in Ankara on 8 July. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha separately called on allies to supply Patriot interceptors to counter ballistic threats.
