Russian missile and drone attacks killed at least 10 people and wounded 18 in a strike on Pechenihy, roughly 55 kilometres east of Kharkiv, destroying homes, a cafe and shops, after the heaviest night of cross-border aerial exchanges since the war began.
In Kyiv, ballistic missiles killed at least five people and wounded 23, collapsing upper floors of a nine-storey residential block and shattering windows at a children's hospital, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Strikes hit three districts, damaging commercial and residential buildings. A separate drone attack near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant killed one person and wounded 15, while overnight drone strikes on Zaporizhzhia city killed one and wounded six. DTEK said a thermal power plant in central Ukraine was forced offline after sustaining damage.
Russia launched 147 drones overnight, with Ukrainian defences downing 111. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said at least 620 drones targeted the capital, with 180 intercepted. Foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the strikes were retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilians and infrastructure.
