At least 12 people were killed overnight in one of the largest aerial exchanges of the war, as Ukraine launched hundreds of drones across Russia and Moscow responded with ballistic missile strikes on Ukrainian cities.
Russian air defences destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said roughly 600 drones were launched toward the capital, and five people were killed in the Rostov region. An 83-year-old man died in the Moscow region, and a strike on Podolsk set fire to a Wildberries warehouse. A Spanish fighter jet shot down a drone that breached Romanian airspace.
In Ukraine, two people were killed in Zaporizhzhia and a strike on Kryvyi Rih hit an ArcelorMittal steel plant, killing two and wounding 14. Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv, sparking fires and injuring several people.
