Wout van Aert secured his second PostNord Danmark Rundt overall victory, defending the leader's jersey through a chaotic final sprint marred by a major crash in the finishing straight of the 126-kilometre stage from Køge to Rødovre. The Belgian, who won the first three stages of the race, finished 11th on the day as Rasmus Søjberg Pedersen took the stage win.
The triumph marks a successful return to competition for Van Aert, who missed the Tour de France due to an elbow infection. His three consecutive stage wins represented a career first, adding to a palmarès that now stands at 57 victories since his previous Danish triumph in 2018.
Van Aert praised the Danish cycling fans for their support, comparing the atmosphere to Belgium, as he turns his attention to the Vuelta a España, which begins on 22 August in Monaco.
