Mathieu van der Poel claimed a third career Tour de France stage victory, winning a chaotic sprint from a breakaway group on stage 9 of the 113th edition of the race.
Organizers cut the route from 185.5 to 154.6 kilometres as temperatures neared 40 degrees in the Corrèze region, reducing the day's racing by roughly 30 kilometres. Van der Poel outsprinted Tobias Halland Johannessen and Tom Pidcock to take the stage win.
In the general classification, Tadej Pogacar retained the yellow jersey with a 2-minute 42-second lead over Jonas Vingegaard. Mads Pedersen finished sixth on the stage and defended the green jersey. The peloton now heads into Monday's first rest day.
