Tadej Pogacar launched a devastating solo attack in the Pyrenees on Wednesday to win the sixth stage of the Tour de France by two minutes and 38 seconds over rival Jonas Vingegaard, seizing control of the race.
The Slovenian struck out alone over the Col du Tourmalet with roughly 43 kilometres remaining, building an insurmountable advantage that left Vingegaard chasing for the rest of the afternoon. Remco Evenepoel finished fourth, while Torstein Traeen crashed and surrendered the yellow jersey. It was Pogacar's 23rd career Tour stage victory.
The result caps a swift reversal of fortunes. Vingegaard had led after the Barcelona time trial on Sunday, where Isaac Del Toro overcame a mechanical setback to win, and Pogacar had moved into contention on stage three. Pogacar now holds a two-minute and 42-second general classification lead over Vingegaard.
