Mads Pedersen becomes first Dane to win Tour de France green jersey

· Sports DNKFRA

Mads Pedersen secured the Tour de France points classification on stage 20, becoming the first Danish rider to claim the green jersey in the race's history. The points competition has been contested since 1952.

Pedersen won the intermediate sprint on stage 20, extending his lead to an unassailable margin over Belgium's Jasper Philipsen. Pedersen holds 527 points to Philipsen's 445, a gap of 77 points that can no longer be closed.

The achievement places Pedersen among elite company. Only five riders — Eddy Merckx, Laurent Jalabert, Djamolidine Abdoujaparov, Alessandro Petacchi, and Mark Cavendish — have won the points jersey in all three Grand Tours, a list Pedersen can now join depending on his record at the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España.
