Lorena Wiebes claimed the first yellow jersey of the Tour de France Femmes, winning the opening stage in a mass sprint in Lausanne after a 138-kilometre circuit race. The victory marked her 10th Tour stage win and 132nd career triumph, as well as her 14th win of the season.
Kim Le Court-Pienaar finished second and Demi Vollering third, with Vollering launching an attack 700 metres from the line before being overtaken in the final dash. Wiebes leads the general classification by four seconds over Le Court and six over Vollering. Defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot finished eighth in the same time as the winner.
The stage was marred by crashes: Laura Tomasi became the first rider to abandon after a fall, while Marlen Reusser and Puck Pieterse both crashed but remounted. Sunday's second stage runs 147.9 kilometres from Aigle to Geneva.
