British cyclist Finlay Tarling, a 19-year-old rider for the NSN Development Team, died on Friday after a collision during the eighth stage of the Tour of Portugal. The accident occurred around 15:40 on the N306 road near Ponte de Lima, where Tarling was struck by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. Emergency responders were unable to revive him following cardiac arrest.

The stage between Melgaço and Fafe was suspended roughly 20 kilometres from the finish, with riders proceeding to the line in a procession. The planned podium ceremony was cancelled as a mark of respect.

The Portuguese Cycling Federation expressed condolences to Tarling's family, teammates, and friends. Tarling was the brother of fellow cyclist Joshua Tarling. His body was transferred to the forensic institute in Viana do Castelo.
