An 18-month-old girl has died in Almada, Portugal, after being left inside a nursery minibus for approximately seven hours. The child was discovered in critical condition at about 4 p.m. on July 23, 2026, and the alarm was raised at 15:53. Despite resuscitation efforts lasting around 45 minutes, the toddler was pronounced dead at the scene. Temperatures in the area were around 27°C at the time.
The vehicle belonged to Colégio O Mestre Cuco, and the child was found on Avenida Cristo Rei, roughly 1.5 km from the nursery on Praceta Alfredo Keil. The director of the school returned from holiday to oversee the institution's response.
The Policia Judiciaria has opened an investigation, and no arrests have been made.
