Two Portuguese women in their late twenties or early thirties died on Wednesday after the motorcycle they were riding was struck by a taxi on the Spanish island of Formentera.
Emergency services received the first distress call at 11:27 local time near Cala Saona. One victim was found with signs incompatible with life, and the other, approximately 25 years old, was in cardiac arrest and could not be stabilised by responding medics. Both women had been travelling on the same motorcycle when the taxi hit them.
Portugal's Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, Emídio Sousa, confirmed the deaths of the two nationals. The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.
