A 21-year-old Spanish driver has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, failing to render aid, and drunk driving after striking and killing a 55-year-old tourist who was jogging near Cala Mesquida on Mallorca early on 19 July 2026.

The victim — identified as a Swedish national by Sweden's foreign ministry, though some reports described him as Swiss — was hit on the road between Cala Mesquida and Capdepera around 07:00 local time. The driver fled the scene, abandoning the body, and returned hours later with his cousin, at which point the Guardia Civil detained him. He tested positive for alcohol.

The victim's remains were found more than 100 metres from the impact site, and recovery took roughly two hours.
