A 17-year-old Norwegian girl was killed in a hit-and-run early Monday on a southern Spanish motorway, authorities confirmed. Nikoline Piwoni Høie, from the southern town of Arendal, was struck on the A-7 highway between Calahonda and Mijas near Marbella in the pre-dawn hours of 6 July 2026.

Høie had been celebrating after watching Norway's World Cup round-of-16 match against Brazil and was last seen at the Funky Buddha bar in Puerto Banús. She reportedly took a hired car toward her holiday accommodation and was hit after exiting the vehicle. The suspected truck driver fled the scene without stopping, and Spanish police have not yet identified the vehicle or driver.

Norway's Foreign Ministry confirmed the death of a Norwegian citizen, and the Norwegian embassy stands ready to assist the family. Høie's family expressed gratitude for the support from their local community in Arendal.
