Two men have been sentenced to 48 years in prison by a Panamanian tribunal for the murder and robbery of a Spanish tourist, in a verdict delivered on Tuesday.
The court handed each defendant 30 years for femicide and a further 18 years for aggravated robbery in connection with the death of Eneritz Argintxona Fraile, a 30-year-old woman from Erandio in the Basque province of Biscay. The crime took place in July 2024 in the Bocas del Toro archipelago on Panama's Caribbean coast.
Argintxona Fraile's body was discovered on 26 July 2024, three days after she was last seen alive. The sentencing brings to a close a case that drew attention in both Panama and Spain.
