A 73-year-old motorist deliberately drove into a group of six cyclists on Saturday morning in Lanzo Torinese, north of Turin, before reversing and striking them a second time following a brief dispute. Two cyclists were airlifted to the orthopaedic trauma centre in Turin in serious condition, including a 60-year-old with fractures to his femur and left leg, and injuries to his face and chest, and a 68-year-old with a severe left shoulder injury. Four other riders suffered trauma and fractures.
The driver initially fled the scene but later turned himself in to the Carabinieri. He was subjected to a toxicological test and is being investigated for attempted murder and multiple counts of causing injury on the road.
