Police shot dead the suspected driver of Saturday's deadly car attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day after he assaulted officers with a blade during an arrest at a allotment garden in Berlin-Spandau on Sunday, authorities said.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, had been wanted since the attack in Tiergarten that killed one woman and injured 29 others near the Ahornsteig. His father stated that his son had been subjected to brainwashing. Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited the scene and laid flowers on Sunday, while the Brandenburg Gate was illuminated in rainbow colours.

In Bavaria, Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann announced a review of security plans for upcoming events, including Nuremberg's Pride, which runs through 9 August with a demonstration scheduled for 8 August.
