German authorities have classified the Berlin Pride ramming as an Islamist terror attack, with Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt saying all evidence points to that motive after a vehicle struck a crowd at Saturday evening's festivities.
The death toll stands at one woman, with 29 others injured, including three in life-threatening condition. Police are hunting 21-year-old suspect Abdul B., a German citizen of Lebanese descent born in Berlin in 2005 who is known to authorities for ties to Islamist circles and is considered armed and dangerous. Investigators say he allegedly drove a van into attendees before attacking with a machete, and some 2,000 officers have been deployed in the manhunt.
Germany has established checkpoints at all border crossings, with a control post also set up at the Danish-German border. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the incident a terrible attack.
