Two people were seriously injured on Saturday when a car ploughed through an outdoor restaurant area and slammed into a building in the old town of Bamberg, Bavaria. The vehicle smashed through a railing and the exterior wall of the house during the late afternoon, becoming lodged inside the structure.
The Federal Agency for Technical Relief was called in to assist emergency crews, who managed to pull the vehicle free from the building by evening. Both occupants of the car sustained serious injuries.
Structural engineers were deployed to assess the damage to the building and determine whether the historic property remained safe. The cause of the crash was not immediately disclosed.
