Elderly driver injures three in Tübingen city centre after apparent pedal mix-up

· Society DEU

A 70-year-old woman injured three people in central Tübingen after apparently confusing the accelerator with the brake while turning, authorities said on Saturday.

The driver of an SUV first struck a 28-year-old cyclist, grazed a 51-year-old pedestrian, and then hit a 59-year-old woman before the vehicle came to rest against a bridge railing. The cyclist and the older pedestrian sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital, though neither is in life-threatening danger. The middle-aged pedestrian suffered minor injuries. The driver and her passenger were unharmed.

The vehicle had to be towed from the scene, and an expert has been commissioned to determine the precise cause of the crash.
