Car ploughs through pedestrian zone in central Germany, injuring eight

A car sped through a pedestrian zone in the central German town of Hofgeismar on Friday morning, striking eight passersby before crashing into the wall of a department store, police said.

The driver was receiving emergency medical treatment and was in critical condition, according to police. Witnesses reported that the driver had already been experiencing medical difficulties before the vehicle entered the pedestrian area. Initial reports had indicated at least one person was injured, but the figure was later revised upward as authorities assessed the scene.

Investigators were still working to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
