Tadej Pogačar claimed a record-equalling fifth Tour de France title on Sunday, joining Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain as the only men to reach the milestone, after extending his lead with a solo attack on Alpe d'Huez on Thursday.

The 27-year-old Slovenian finished the three-week race with a 6:26 advantage over Belgian Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel, while Isaac del Toro rounded out the podium. His triumph was confirmed before the final stage as general classification times were frozen 48 kilometres from the line. Jonas Vingegaard, who crashed out on stage 15, missed the contest entirely.

Mathieu van der Poel won the shortened 89-kilometre final stage on the Champs-Élysées. Mads Pedersen secured the green points jersey, Richard Carapaz took the mountains classification and del Toro claimed best young rider in the 3,289-kilometre race.
