Two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard withdrew from the 2026 race on Sunday after a crash roughly 20 kilometres from the finish of the 15th stage. The Dane, who won the Tour in 2022 and 2023, was sitting second overall, 4 minutes 30 seconds behind yellow jersey Tadej Pogacar, when he went down at a roundabout on the descent toward the final climb to Plateau de Solaison.
Vingegaard took down several Visma-Lease a Bike teammates as well as Isaac del Toro and Jai Hindley in the pile-up. Pogacar avoided the incident. Vingegaard left the course in a medical vehicle with his right arm in a sling, with a suspected collarbone fracture cited as the reason for his exit.
The withdrawal marks the first abandonment of Vingegaard's professional career. He won this year's Giro d'Italia before targeting a third Tour title. The 16th of 21 stages takes place Monday.
