Tadej Pogačar won stage 19 of the Tour de France on Alpe d'Huez on Thursday, extending his overall lead to more than seven minutes after Richard Carapaz claimed the previous day's mountain stage.

The Slovenian climbed the 13.7-kilometre, 8.1-percent gradient ascent in 35 minutes and 27 seconds, breaking Marco Pantani's long-standing record on the iconic mountain. It was Pogačar's fifth stage win of the 113th edition and the 26th of his Tour career, securing a 7:11 advantage over Remco Evenepoel and 9:42 over Isaac del Toro in the general classification. Mads Pedersen leads the points competition by 57 points over Jasper Philipsen.

Saturday's penultimate stage finishes again on Alpe d'Huez, with the route tackling 5,450 metres of elevation gain via the Col de Sarenne.
