Newcastle United are closing in on an agreement to sell Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal for a fee around €90 million (£77m), after the midfielder informed the club he wishes to join the London side and requested a delay to his pre-season travel. Lyon are set to receive a portion exceeding €8m through a sell-on clause.
Newcastle have rejected multiple Arsenal bids, including offers of £55m and £70m, and denied reports that a deal was already finalised. Guimarães did not travel with the squad to Murcia on Friday and is now expected to arrive on Sunday. The club are also negotiating a £26m deal for goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.
Meanwhile, Matthias Jaissle is completing his move from Al-Ahli to become Newcastle's new manager, signing a four-year contract with compensation of up to £9.4m paid to the Saudi club. His appointment follows Eddie Howe's departure on Thursday after nearly five years in charge.
