Newcastle United have completed the signing of midfielder Aladji Bamba from Monaco in a deal worth up to £34 million, making the 20-year-old Frenchman the club's fourth senior addition of the summer. Bamba has agreed a five-year contract and will wear the number eight shirt at St. James' Park.
The defensive-minded midfielder is being recruited as a No. 6 following the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur for an initial £92.5 million last month. Bamba made 25 appearances for Monaco last season, including five UEFA Champions League matches, and ranked among the top Ligue 1 midfielders for duels won, tackles and successful take-ons.
Newcastle's summer rebuild continues amid ongoing Arsenal interest in Bruno Guimarães, with the club indicating it would seek a fee close to Tonali's valuation for the Brazilian midfielder.
