Aston Villa have completed the signing of Brazil midfielder Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth up to £38 million. The club will pay an initial £34 million with £4 million in potential add-ons for the 25-year-old, who made 130 appearances for Wolves after arriving from Flamengo in 2023.
Gomes, who was named Wolves' Player of the Year last season after 41 appearances, becomes Villa's second major signing of the week. The club confirmed the arrival of Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi in a club-record deal on Friday.
The arrivals offset significant midfield departures at Villa Park. Youri Tielemans has been sold to Manchester United for £35 million, while Morgan Rogers is set to leave in a £117 million move to Chelsea. Amadou Onana remains sidelined until next year with a knee injury sustained at the World Cup, and full-back Lucas Digne is also on the verge of departing.
