Aston Villa have completed the signing of Swiss forward Johan Manzambi from SC Freiburg for a club-record fee of £59.5m, with German reports placing the total package at up to 70 million euros.
Manzambi, who scored three goals for Switzerland at the 2026 World Cup, had been the subject of a £49m agreement with Newcastle United before Villa moved to secure his services. The transfer is Freiburg's largest sale in the club's history.
The deal reunites Manzambi with familiar opposition: he lined up for Freiburg in the Europa League final in Istanbul in May, where Villa prevailed 3-0. He was subsequently named Europa League Young Player of the Season for 2025-26. Villa have also sold Youri Tielemans to Manchester United for £35m as the club reshapes its squad for the coming campaign.
