Manchester United are on the cusp of signing midfielder Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa after activating a release clause valued at approximately £35m. The 29-year-old Belgium captain, who opened the scoring in Villa's Europa League final victory over Freiburg last season, has made 134 appearances since arriving on a free transfer from Leicester City in 2023.
The deal represents United's second major piece of business after agreeing a £50m fee with Chelsea for Andrey Santos. The club recently abandoned a £39m pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson over fitness concerns.
Tielemans, who scored twice in Belgium's World Cup group-stage comeback against Senegal before missing the quarter-final through injury, helped Villa secure Champions League qualification in two of the past three campaigns. His arrival at Old Trafford would add a proven Premier League operator to a midfield undergoing significant reshaping.
