Bruno Guimaraes tells Newcastle he wants to leave as Arsenal step up pursuit

· Sports GBRBRANOR

Bruno Guimaraes has informed Newcastle's hierarchy that he wishes to leave the club and join Arsenal, prompting the London side to accelerate their interest in the midfielder.

Arsenal are prepared to offer a package worth around £60m for the 28-year-old, though no club-to-club contact has yet taken place. Guimaraes, who has two years remaining on his contract, missed a penalty in Brazil's World Cup last-16 exit to Norway on 5 July. Arsenal are also weighing alternatives including Alex Scott and Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Newcastle have already recouped nearly £200m this summer through the departures of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham in a deal worth up to £100m and Anthony Gordon. Guimaraes has made 195 appearances for Newcastle since his £40m move from Lyon in 2022, scoring 31 goals.
