Belgian poultry producer Laerco BV has initiated a recall of barn-laid eggs after salmonella was detected in one of its hen houses, the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain confirmed on Monday.
The affected eggs bear the stamp codes 2-BE-1073-01, 2-BE-1073-02, 2-BE-1073-03, and 2-BE-1073-04 and were sold through retailers including Colruyt and Delhaize. Authorities are urging consumers who purchased eggs with those codes to return them to the point of sale for a full refund.
The recall was carried out in coordination with Belgian food safety regulators. Salmonella infection can cause gastrointestinal illness and poses a heightened risk to young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
