Belgian police station evacuated after residents bring in live grenade

A police station in Zaventem, near Brussels, was evacuated Saturday after residents brought in a grenade they had found during cleanup work at a property on Invalidelaan. The civilians carried the device in a bucket to the station's front desk around 17:00 local time.

The station and surrounding offices were cleared and a security perimeter established while authorities responded. Belgium's explosive ordnance disposal service, DOVO, arrived on scene and removed the grenade for further examination.

Police spokesperson Jana Berghman warned that unexploded ordnance should never be touched, picked up, or moved by civilians, urging the public to contact authorities immediately instead.
