Lidl's Belgian operations have suffered a data breach after unauthorized individuals briefly accessed a separately stored file containing customer data. The supermarket chain confirmed the incident affected customers with accounts on its Belgian webshop, though it has not disclosed how many people were impacted.
The compromised information includes names, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, and customer numbers. However, passwords, billing and shipping addresses, and payment or banking details were not exposed. Lidl stated it has no concrete evidence of data misuse but warned customers to remain vigilant against phishing attempts or identity theft.
The company has notified affected customers. Lidl's IT service provider filed a formal complaint with authorities and engaged forensic experts to investigate the breach.
