Taylor Farms recalls prepared foods with jalapeños across 26 states amid salmonella outbreak

Taylor Farms has voluntarily recalled roughly 20 prepared food items containing jalapeño peppers — including salsas, guacamole, dips and sandwiches — distributed to retailers such as Walmart, Target and Whole Foods across 26 states, after Coast Citrus Distributors recalled fresh peppers linked to a salmonella outbreak that sickened 345 people across 27 states.

The affected products, carrying 'best if used by' dates through Aug. 16, were pulled from shelves at major chains including Kroger, Trader Joe's, Hannaford and Stop & Shop. Walmart implemented sales blocks at registers and online, while Trader Joe's recalled 668 packages of fiesta salad with shrimp containing the affected salsa. A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, supplying Coast Citrus Distributors, was identified as the source; Taylor Farms said it has severed ties with the farmer.

The recall adds to turmoil for Taylor Farms, which produces roughly 40% of all U.S. salad kits and separately suspended iceberg lettuce sourcing from central Mexico amid an unrelated cyclospora outbreak that has spread to 45 states and caused two deaths.
