Austria defender Wöber joins Schalke on one-year deal after Leeds exit

· Sports DEUAUT

Austria international Maximilian Wöber has joined FC Schalke 04 on a free transfer, signing a one-year contract with the Bundesliga club. The 31-cap centre-back arrives following the termination of his contract at Leeds United, which cleared the way for an unattached move.

Wöber completed his medical examination at Schalke's training camp in the Stubaital before finalising terms. The defender, who has represented Austria 31 times, becomes available immediately as the club prepares for the upcoming campaign.

The departure from Leeds marks the end of Wöber's stint in English football. Schalke moved quickly to secure his services once the mutual separation from the Yorkshire club was confirmed, adding an experienced campaigner to their defensive options without a transfer fee.
