Woman killed and child airlifted to hospital after car and truck collision in Co Cavan

A woman in her 50s was killed and a young girl airlifted to hospital in critical condition following a collision between a car and a truck on the R162 near Shercock, Co Cavan, on Thursday evening.

The crash, which occurred near Lough Silan and Corclare just after 5pm on 24 July, involved the car driven by the deceased woman. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A female juvenile passenger was airlifted to Temple Street Children's Hospital, while other occupants of both vehicles received medical treatment at the scene. Fire service units from Kingscourt and Bailieborough, along with the National Ambulance Service, responded to the incident.

The R162 remains closed for forensic examination by collision investigators, with local diversions in place. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage from the period between 4:45pm and 5:15pm on the day of the crash.
