Irish teenager dies in hospital 9 days after single-car crash in Co Wexford

Sophie Caulfield, a 14-year-old girl from Cluain Huighead, County Wexford, died in hospital on 17 July — nine days after a single-vehicle crash in Sheastown, Wellingtonbridge, that occurred at approximately 06:20 on 8 July.

Caulfield was transferred from Wexford General Hospital to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin following the collision. Two other teenage passengers, a boy and a girl, were also brought to hospital after the crash.

The car's driver, a man in his late teens, was arrested and later appeared before Carlow District Court charged in connection with the collision. Funeral details are due to be announced on 20 July.
