Six people were hospitalized in stable condition on Sunday after a chain of rescue attempts at Rosslare Strand in County Wexford, Ireland, when a younger swimmer got into difficulty on 12 July 2026.
A man first entered the water to help the child and then got into difficulty himself, prompting four other beachgoers to attempt a rescue of both the child and the man. All six were pulled from the water in a multi-agency response involving the Rosslare Harbour Lifeboat, local Coast Guard units, police, and ambulance services. One person was airlifted by Coast Guard helicopter to a nearby rugby club before being transferred to Wexford General Hospital, while the remaining five were taken by ambulance with a police escort.
Local councillor Ger Carthy confirmed the hospitalizations. All six patients were reported in stable condition at Wexford General Hospital.
