A woman in her 20s was arrested under the Offences Against the State Act after a Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to assist gardaí at a vehicle stop in County Monaghan on July 22.
The incident began at around 3 p.m. when gardaí stopped a vehicle travelling on the N2 south of Carrickmacross. Officers at the scene requested assistance from the army bomb squad, prompting the deployment of an EOD unit to examine the car. The driver was detained and the EOD team completed its examination, though the outcome has not been released for operational reasons.
The road was closed for a period during the operation but has since reopened. The woman remains in detention following her arrest pursuant to Section 30 of the 1939 Act.
