A woman in her 50s was seriously injured in a stabbing at Holy Cross Church in Tramore, County Waterford, on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. during the recitation of the rosary before the 10 a.m. Mass, and the woman was reportedly stabbed on the altar. She was transferred to University Hospital Waterford with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A man in his 30s was arrested at a nearby domestic residence and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in County Waterford. Gardaí seized a knife at the scene, which will be technically examined. It remains unknown whether the man and the woman were acquainted.
