At least 12 people were killed and 39 wounded when Ukrainian drones struck the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk in Tatarstan, some 1,600 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, prompting local leader Rustam Minnikhanov to declare a day of mourning. Mayor Radmir Belyayev said both civilian and industrial targets were hit, with Russian media reporting damage to an oil refinery, after Ukraine's recent campaign against energy infrastructure deep inside Russia.

The Russian defence ministry said air defences intercepted 456 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 23 near Moscow and more than 70 over the Rostov region. A woman was killed in Belgorod when a drone struck a house in Novaya Tavolzhanka.

On the Ukrainian side, five people died in a Russian artillery strike on a residential area in Kharkiv's Chuguyiv district, and a taxi driver was killed by a drone in Kherson.
