The Royal Spanish Football Federation has opened an extraordinary disciplinary proceeding against FC Barcelona following Atlético Madrid's complaint over an alleged illicit approach for striker Julián Álvarez. A disciplinary judge will be appointed to investigate the case.
Atlético filed complaints with both the RFEF and FIFA on June 30, accusing Barcelona of attempting to engineer Álvarez's departure for well below his 500-million-euro release clause. The 26-year-old Argentine forward is under contract with Atlético until June 2030 and within his three-season contractual protection period. Barcelona had submitted a formal offer of 100 million euros in late May.
Atlético chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín publicly denounced Barcelona's conduct in late June, accusing the club of disrespect. Álvarez himself stated on June 22 that "the best thing for everyone is a transfer."
