Spain's General Council of the Judiciary failed to reach agreement on whether to open disciplinary proceedings against judge Juan Carlos Peinado, postponing a decision on five pending investigations until later this week.
The permanent commission began reviewing a proposal by disciplinary affairs promoter Ricardo Conde to archive the complaints. Among them is a case involving expressions Peinado used in a restraining order against Begoña Gómez, in which he suggested national police officers could help her flee justice. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska lodged a formal complaint over those remarks. The council's president, Isabel Perelló, initially proposed opening a file for a serious breach under judicial law, though the commission later deferred the assessment to Conde.
Other complaints were filed by politician Félix Bolaños, the Más Madrid party, and several individuals. Peinado is due to retire in September 2026.
