FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Argentina Football Association and several of its players following the World Cup final and earlier tournament incidents. The final, played on 19 July in East Rutherford, saw Spain defeat Argentina 1-0.
Leandro Paredes faces three counts of assault for allegedly grabbing and pushing Spain players after the match, while Nahuel Molina is charged with striking Rodri at full-time. Assistant coach Roberto Ayala also faces an assault charge. Additionally, Molina, Thiago Almada and Spain's Gavi are charged with unsporting behaviour.
The association itself faces proceedings for discriminatory chants, throwing objects and using the event for non-sporting demonstrations. Argentina players had displayed a banner reading 'Las Malvinas son Argentinas' after their semi-final victory over England. The Falkland Islands government denounced the conduct in a letter to FIFA.
