FIFA has launched a disciplinary investigation into Argentina following violent scenes after their World Cup final defeat to Spain in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The governing body has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to examine potential breaches of its code.
The probe centres on Leandro Paredes, who was shown a red card after grabbing Gavi by the shirt, striking him in the face, and pushing him to the ground following the 1-0 loss. Investigators will review referee reports and camera footage and may also examine Nahuel Molina's strike on Rodri and assistant coach Roberto Ayala's alleged push on Dani Olmo. Enzo Fernández was also sent off with a second yellow in stoppage time.
The investigation could extend to Argentina's semi-final against England, where Giovanni Lo Celso displayed a banner asserting Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, though it remains unclear whether that incident is part of the current inquiry.
