A Russian airstrike using two aerial bombs struck Latvia's honorary consulate in the eastern Ukrainian city of Sloviansk on Friday, killing five people and wounding nine others. The attack also damaged ten residential buildings and a commercial property in the city, according to official accounts.
Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže confirmed the strike in a post on X. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen condemned the attack, one of the most prominent strikes targeting an EU member state's diplomatic premises in the ongoing conflict.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced that the bloc will summon Russia's ambassador to the EU and propose further sanctions targeting Moscow's defence industry in response to the strike.
