David Popovici secured his third consecutive European 100m freestyle title at the European Swimming Championships in Paris, clocking 46.56 seconds for the fastest final in the event's history. Popovici, who noted the times were quicker than at the Paris 2024 Olympics, improved on the championship record he set in the semifinals. Egor Kornev took silver in 46.74 and Kristof Milak bronze in 46.87, with all eight finalists combining for 377.78 seconds. Spain's Luca Hoek finished fourth in 47.39 seconds.
In other events, Hubert Kos set a European record in the 200m backstroke semifinals with 1:52.30, while Sara Curtis broke the world record in the 50m backstroke in 26.62. Sarah Sjöström claimed her sixth European 50m butterfly title. Spain's Carlos Garach set a national record in the 800m freestyle, while Romania's Denis Popescu and Vlad Mihalache missed the 100m butterfly final.
