Britain won gold in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay at the European Swimming Championships, finishing in 7 minutes 1.52 seconds to edge out France, who set a new national record of 7:02.23 to claim silver.

The French quartet of Léon Marchand, Pierre Largeron, Sauveur Cristofini and Roman Fuchs delivered a strong performance, with Marchand swimming a lead-off split of 1:43.76 — more than three seconds faster than his personal best and the sixth-fastest time in history over 200m freestyle. Cristofini, 16, became a European vice-champion with the relay medal.

Marchand missed the 200m and 400m individual medley events due to a right adductor injury. In other action, Maxime Grousset advanced to the 50m butterfly final.
