Belgian middle-distance runner Eliott Crestan has withdrawn from the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham after suffering a hamstring tear in his left thigh. The injury occurred during his final training session in Spain before the championships, ruling him out of both the 800m and 4x400m relay. Crestan had announced he was arriving in peak form and targeting a top-eight finish. Eline Dalemans and Naomi Van den Broeck also withdrew, leaving Belgium with 57 athletes at the event.
In the 5000m, Jakob Ingebrigtsen claimed victory, with Florian Bremm second and Étienne Daguinos third. Swiss runner Dominic Lobalu finished seventh, while Isaac Kimeli, the 2025 world silver medallist, also competed.
Swiss athletes Simon Ehammer qualified for the long jump final with 8.10 metres, and Larissa Bertényi reached the 100m hurdles semi-finals in 13.01 seconds.
