Wesemann defends 1m springboard title as Italy and Britain also strike gold at Paris European championships

Moritz Wesemann retained his European 1-metre springboard crown with 431.45 points, finishing 13.20 points clear of Britain's Jack Laugher on the second day of the European Aquatics Championships in Paris.

In the mixed synchronised 3-metre springboard, Italy's Chiara Pellacani and Matteo Santoro topped the field with 305.85 points, ahead of Russian pair Ilia Molchanov and Elisaveta Kuzina and Germany's Luis Carlo Avila Sanchez and Lena Corona Hentschel. The Italian duo had previously won European gold in Budapest in 2021 and secured the world title in Singapore last year.

Germany also featured on the podium in the women's 10-metre synchronised platform, where Pauline Pfeif and Elena Wassen took silver behind Britain's Maisie Bond and Lois Toulson. The championships, which opened on 31 July, continue through 16 August.
